WarningDVD

1- channel videoloop for TV and DVD-Player.

This video installation is placed somewhere between my so called material-studies and  analog/digital-studies.

Basically the stored data on a DVD are written in tracks or so-called sectors. Each single warning text is written on a different position on the DVD. To make the laser read the specific information, the rotation speed of the disc need to vary velocity. This is depending of the sectors position.

With the ise of a contact microphone stitched to the DVD-Player, it is possible to amplify the sound of the rotation-frequency of the disc. A very similar principe to the first mechanical synthesizers.

The warning screens are taken from Tod Browning’s “Freaks” (MGM, 1932) and are shown in 27 different languages.
